Bhoomi Project Hogs Limelight

hoomi was showcased at an international conclave here on Tuesday as part of India’s e-governance system incorporating modern technology.

Participating at the meeting of the Governing Council of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), representatives from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Pakistan and Myanmar showed interest on Bhoomi project, said Union Rural Development Minister Raghuvansha Prasad Singh.

India is hosting the meeting for the first time since the inception of the CIRDAP, and in the three-day meeting countries will exchange the implementing of effective delivery mechanism of rural development schemes by adopting information technology.

Principal Secretary to Karnataka’s Revenue Department D Tangaraj and Commissioner Land Records Rajiv Chawla made the presentation.

Two crore records

Tangaraj said the project has 2 crore land records pertaining to 70 lakh farmers in Karnataka, and is bringing Rs 20 crore per annum revenue for the government.

A presentation was also done on the Abdul Nazir Saab State Institute of Rural Development which imparts satellite based training for Panchayat Raj institution functionaries.

CIRDAP, an inter-governmental regional organisation was established in 1979 by Food and Agriculture Organisations with its headquarters in Dhaka.

The centre is broadly mandated to facilitate the provision of services that will influence policy formulation and programme action towards rural development in member countries.
